Kevin Durant, the University of Texas star freshman forward, just put up the best game in UT and Big XII history. His 37 point 23 rebound game at Texas Tech was simply amazing. Keep in mind that the conference is slightly more than a decade old but nobody, not Drew Gooden, not Paul Pierce, not Nick Collison, not Marcus Fizer, not Raef LaFrentz, not Chauncey Billups, has done what this kid did in just his 21st collegiate game. And by the way he is averaging 33 points per game in conference play - as a Freshman!
With all due respect to Alando Tucker in Madison, Nick Fazekas in Reno and Joakim Noah in Gainesville, the Player of the Year in college basketball right now resides in Austin...but not for long.
In June, Durant will be a huge present to some NBA General Manager at the helm of a struggling franchise. Fans in one lucky NBA city will be welcoming a 6'9" star-in-the-making ready to tear up the league. And by virtue of his one year in college, Durant will start his NBA career off more polished than Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady or Kevin Garnett who all came straight from chemistry class (or whatever they teach in High School these days). Note that I purposefully omitted Lebron James here as he arrived in the NBA as a man-child and averaged 20.9 point, 5.9 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game in his rookie campaign - hard numbers for even a talent like Durant to match.

Tucker is the man!!! He's a one man wrecking crew with no support. The Badgers would be terrible without him but are #2 with him!
Durant is great but not good enough to take Texas into the Sweet 16. He should come back next year but probably won't. We'll have to see him next year in Boston, Charlotte, or another terrrible team.
